Shhhh, I can't talk right now...
Why do people insist on answering their cell phone when they can't talk? Isn't that what voice mail is for?
Bite-sized portions of triviality, served up since 1997.

Its so it doesn't keep ringing in a quiet room!
Instead of answering it and prolonging an already-inappropriate conversation, you should minimize the problem by turning off your ringing phone or hitting the button to "reject" instead of "accept" the call.
If you answer in a hushed voice and say, "I'm in a meeting," you make the caller think it's his/her fault for calling. But how would he/she know you were busy? And when you answer the phone by saying you can't talk, what is the caller supposed to say next?
Either way, you're better off having them talk your voice mail.
Guy on the Metro this morning, if I read lips correctly (I was listening to my iPod), took off his earphones, answered his phone and said "Can I call you back, I'm on the Metro right now. .... I'm on the Metro." click. Then he put his earphones back on. I agree: pointless.
Yep, that's exactly what I mean. This is why they invented voice mail. The guy on the Metro has no idea what the caller wanted but would have if the guy had been able to leave a message.
