Lucky wardrobe

Recently, a Lucky Strike bowling alley opened up in Gallery Place. Several cities already have Lucky Strike lanes, so this is probably not a new debate. Anyway, this is the sign outlining its dress code. Help me settle a debate:

Figuratively speaking, does this sign say "no black people"?
Yes. It doesn't ban "hats" -- it
bans "skull caps." White people don't
wear skull caps.
No. It wants to be a classy place
and this is a standard dress code used to
ensure that.

The "No Chains" line is my favorite--what on earth does this mean? No bicycle chains? No S & M Chains? No tire chains (you never know when it might snow in DC)? Or no over-the-top bling?

Obviously it means bling, which is just sad, because when is the last time you saw a white person with bling on besides a hip hop video?

It's 65 percent racist and 35 percent the second one.

Nah, I'm gonna put it more at 99% racist, 1% just someone being clueless.

If they want to just keep it classy, say "smart dress required" like anyplace else.

It's no secret that there are a lot of black consumers in the Gallery Place area, and many of them are dressed like this. Lucky Strike wants to make sure the hipster whites aren't turned off by it being a "black" place. From what the esteemed author of this blog told me, they are failing at doing this anyway, so why have a sign that is offensive to many of your clientele?

Disclaimer: I am two degrees of separation from someone who has a blog specifically denouncing this place.

Take it from someone who has tried to do business with Lucky Strike in Gallery Place....they are as racist and non-hip hop friendly as any establishment I have ever run across. It's not even subliminal. They are right in your face with about how they feel. It's a shame because the Urban community would spend more money in their establishment than any other. Unfortunately, they won't get a penny from me.
