No wonder our school children aren't learning anything

"Major Snow Storm Shuts Down Schools," the online Washington Post headline read this morning. I excitedly opened the curtains to see how much snow had fallen.

It was about an inch or two.

I turned on the TV (Since when do you watch live TV? Well, never. But we had a houseguest last night, and I wanted him to feel at home.), and the local reporter said, "Here in Chantilly, it's a good thing schools are closed -- there seems to be slush everywhere!"

Anyway, for my out-of-town readers who may be curious, this dusting is what caused D.C.-area schools to close:

Chantilly is for wimps anyway.

When will DC realize that it snows EVERY YEAR there and that the city (and region) should invest in plows and salt? Every year it's the same thing. Midway Airport had 9 inches of snow yesteray, but do you think Chicago closed any schools? Hell no.

Sadly, they should have closed Midway, though.

The thing is, I'm not sure we need more plows. The streets looked fine today. Yes, there was "slush everywhere," as the TV reporters said, but big deal.

The only reason my office isn't fully staffed today is because with closed schools, some parents were forced to work from home.

well it made the commute pretty easy! I actually think that's mostly why they do it, keep the world safe for commuters.
Luckily our preschool goes with the Feds, not the county schools or we'd pretty much take the winter off.
