A pretty nice little Saturday
There is a Bed Bath & Beyond store coming to my neighborhood, about six blocks from my house. There's nothing I need from that store. And in fact, I probably couldn't tell it apart from others like it that I've seen at the mall, such as Linens 'n Things.
But my part of the world doesn't have stores like that. If someone in my neighborhood needs a set of bed sheets, I have no idea what I'd recommend. And thus, I welcome the Bed Bath & Beyond to the area.
(In the ongoing debate, score one point for retail chains.)

silly story...but I remember walking into my first BB&B, it was in Manhattan, c.1990. I thought it must be heaven. I was late to meet a friend for dinner because I couldn't drag myself out of there. So yes there's lots of silly people like me who love those kinds of stores. I actually think it's nicer than L&T but haven't spent a lot of time analyzing the difference.
oh and I'm sure you'd find something you need if you venture in.
Its NASDAQ listing tells us that it is based in New Jersey; it has 732 stores; and it has been around since 1971. Strangely, the listing failed to mention that it was where Marnie & I bought our AeroBed.
I REMEMBER when SAL discovered BB&B !!! She was soooooo excited and loved it soooooo much, I couldn't wait for one to come to Madison. It has a lot of good things, but i think not as wonderful as it was in 1990.

With a wedding coming up and a registry there, I've been spending a lot of time in BB&B. The place has everything. except stuff we registered for elsewhere...
Some stores (and its Web site) even carry nice china and doodads usually only found in department stores, like nambe etc. AND, the best part is, you always get those 20% off coupons in the mail, so pretty much everything you buy there has the potential to be 20% off. We've been stocking up on those babies.

Within the last month or so, I've made it onto their 20%-off coupon mailing list. Until that point, Marnie & I had been relying on The Ham, who has a stack lying around of about 50 of those things.
I remember when it was just Bed & Bath. Really. -- josh
