Ring, ring

When I was in high school, my dad had a Zack Morris cell phone, which I thought was the coolest thing ever.

It's all about expectations, you see.

For example, I got a new cell phone yesterday.1 My RAZR V3XX looks fancy, but it doesn't come with any ring tones to choose from.

Any.

I'm stuck with the default ring unless I purchase a $30 CD filled with ring tones or pay to download one.

For all I know, the Zack Morris phone only had one ring too, but that didn't matter at the time.

1I have a new number too. Please update your address book. Effective immediately, my new number is ALL-EDEN. Same area code.

Back in the good ol' days your new exchange was unique (at least for the D.C. area) to where I lived in NoVa.

You could dial a number on either side of the Potomac without an area code, but too many people getting Zack Morris telephones ruined that and now we have ten digit dialing. Curse you Zack Morris!

We've still got seven-digit dialing here in the District. Zack Morris, you're off the hook for now. Pun intended.

Who's your provider? We have Sprint and they want us to buy ringtones, but I make my own all the time.

AT&T. Once I get a USB cord for this thing (not included, grrrr), I assume I'll be able to add rings pretty easily.

Don't know-- Sprintusers.com provides an upload form that's pretty handy: it text messages your phone a link to the file. I'm guessing some AT&T users site does something like that.

I've never gotten the USB stuff working on XP or Windows 2003; never even occurs to me to try USB for that stuff, though it would be nice for moving things back off.

What the hell is a Zack Morris phone?

SJB gets a fancy-pants job and suddenly she's no longer part of our generation.

Well, now that I've googled the term, I can vouch that SKBK's Mom had a Zach Morris phone. Somehow I missed that cultural phenomenon...

She did, and it was huge. And then it got stolen in the great Plymouth Ave robbery.

Plymouth Ave robbery? I don't remember this. Let's shanghai dl004d's blog comments so you can remind me.
