Welcome to the coffee, would you like some coffee?

According to Answers.com, a "coffee" is an informal social gathering at which coffee and other refreshments are served.

Evidently, this is well known. After all, the New York Times used the term twice in this article without defining it.
  • “If you ask my wife, we had the first coffee for Barack,” Rabbi Wolf said."
  • "Their paths have crossed sporadically since then, at a coffee Mr. Ayers hosted for Mr. Obama’s first run for office."
I wonder if they use terms like that in Real America.

We use the term "coffee" like that here in GB. With the other mums I know, we take turns hosting coffee once a week to get together and visit and let the kids play. Does that make me a "Coffee Mom"?

Real Americans ask for a cup of Joe.

I've always wanted to meet this guy Joe. He must be pretty small.
