Giddyup

FARMINGTON, N.M. — I laughed when I first learned that my arrival in town coincided with the National High School Finals Rodeo. When I saw high schoolers hanging out at my hotel practicing their lassoing, I became intrigued. By the end of the day, it was clear that it was an event I needed to attend.

Click here to experience my visit to the rodeo.

Hey, you're right. Those are great shots. #13 gets my grand prize with an honorable mention for #9.

In the defense of the cowgirl on the cell phone, she was not competing at the time.

These photos would be perfect for that America's Most American Photo contest they do in Parade Magazine.

Serious, though, they're good photos.

Before this week, I'd have said Professor SJB is about as likely to know about Parade Magazine's regular features as I am likely to attend the rodeo.

Don't be fooled: in her down time, Professor SJB doffs the academic regalia and slums in pop culture with the best of them.

Also, your rodeo coverage has made me decide I'm going to try to make it to that Hayward, WI Lumberjack Bowl some day.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you have to go to that.
