15 items or less

Do supermarkets put their best check-out clerks in the express lanes or the regular lanes?

One the one hand, express lane cashiers have to be quick, since customers are presumably in a rush. But maybe it's the easiest job since there are so few items to scan.

Of course, shoppers waiting in line behind a customer with a full cart of groceries want the clerks in regular lane to be fast too.

If one clerk was faster than all others, I would...
Put that clerk in an express lane
Put that clerk in a regular lane
Alternate

Totally depends on the location. 'Round here in New Hampshire you might as well put them in the real lines. The Express Lines are bogged down with cigarette sales.

just wanted to send a shout-out to Rachael, the best damn grocery store check-out woman on the East Coast. She used to work at the IGA in Providence, RI and people would rearrange their schedules/lives/shopping routines to get in her aisle. She truly was a tour de force. I mean, I hope she has a better job by now and all but she's forever my gold standard.

Wow.

(But if IGA was smart, they'd have realized that someone who causes people to plan their lives around shopping at IGA deserves to be paid handsomely.)
