Thank you to SKB for pointing this out: Bed Bath & Beyond sells a trash can for $179.99.

In a country with a $12 trillion GDP, it probably isn't a big deal at all. But no extra people (American or otherwise) are put to work with a $180 garbage can instead of a $30 one. The materials probably don't cost more and it doesn't cost anything more to make. It certainly doesn't cost anything more to sell, and it doesn't cost anything more to ship. So there's $150 out there that could be going to, well, anything else, and are instead making some stockholder $150 richer.

Not a big deal. Just a little warped.

This is all very eye opening to me. BB&BB's (what's the extra B for?) Web site has several trash cans for $100-$180.

Probably selling to the same group of people who are buying up houses in Columbia Heights and begging Whole Foods to open up a new store because the one at 14th and P streets is SOOOO far away.

those trash cans from BB&B are the S#@t ! (pardon my French) I have them in like every room of my mansion. Every single one of my maids absolutely loves them. I'm not kidding- every single one!
