Pregdar

Just about every time I turn on the TV, Marnie walks in and tells me the woman on the screen is covering up the fact that she is pregnant.

Kelly Taylor1 on 90210? Pregnant.
Jordan McDeere on Studio 60? Pregnant.
Elaine Benes2 on Seinfeld? Pregnant.
Monica Geller on Friends? Pregnant.

Pretty much at all times, Marnie is convinced that someone on the screen is pregnant. It's a skill, like being able to spot gay people.

I call it pregdar.

1 As it happens, Jennie Garth gave birth this week to her third child.
2 Twice, meaning it is even more likely that I'm watching an episode in which she was pregnant.

Same thing on Law & Order SVU, where they had Mariska Hargitay wearing a big puffy coat to cover up the fact she was pregnant (and now her character is "undercover" for a few weeks)

I've always thought USC cheerleaders were pretty classy (to the extent that such a classification is possible in the cheerleading world). They wear long-sleeved white turtlenecks, rather than the skimpy tops donned by most cheerleading teams. But yesterday I discovered that a USC Song Girl named Megan Ramer doesn't wear underwear. Paperweights have become paperweights

When something goes unused or becomes obsolete, it's said to become a paperweight. Is your cellphone slow and out of date? It's become a paperweight. Is your laptop too slow to use? It's become a paperweight. Do you never use your Apple Vision Pro? It's become a paperweight. Weirdly, paper itself has become a paperweight. People do their work on laptops, tablets, and phones. Most homes don't have printers. Not only do we not need paperweights, we barely need paper!
