Partying in real time


PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. -- The theme1 at KWB's bat mitzvah party was "24," as in the Emmy-winning TV show on Fox. Since I don't watch this program, I didn't know any of the answers to the trivia contests.

But I still managed to come home with a free t-shirt. Thanks, KWB!

My bar mitzvah theme was a classic: Numbers, Chapter 1:

G-d orders Moses, in the wilderness of Sinai, to take the number of those able to bear arms—of all the men "from twenty years old and upward," the tribe of Levi being excepted, and to appoint princes over each tribe. You should have called/texted (is that a verb?) me for answers. I live and breathe 24. Great show. Though I'm sure there are a few commandments broken in each episode.

I've always thought USC cheerleaders were pretty classy (to the extent that such a classification is possible in the cheerleading world). They wear long-sleeved white turtlenecks, rather than the skimpy tops donned by most cheerleading teams. But yesterday I discovered that a USC Song Girl named Megan Ramer doesn't wear underwear. Paperweights have become paperweights

When something goes unused or becomes obsolete, it's said to become a paperweight. Is your cellphone slow and out of date? It's become a paperweight. Is your laptop too slow to use? It's become a paperweight. Do you never use your Apple Vision Pro? It's become a paperweight. Weirdly, paper itself has become a paperweight. People do their work on laptops, tablets, and phones. Most homes don't have printers. Not only do we not need paperweights, we barely need paper!
