HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Seeking to save money on a new TV, I arrived at Circuit City at 4 a.m. on "Black Friday," an hour before the store opened.

I waited in line for 3 1/2 hours, and by the time I got to the front the store had sold out of the TV that I wanted. But — as I implied to my Twitter audience — I left happy.

Then I emerged from the store to see the sunrise on East-West Highway. Shopping on Black Friday was a crazy experience, but I'd do it again.

I can't believe you went out with all the other lemmings. Some lady got trampled at a big local electronics chain back in Sunnyvale, Calif., when it opened at 5 a.m. Me, I'm all about Cyber Monday, or whatever it's called.

I've always thought USC cheerleaders were pretty classy (to the extent that such a classification is possible in the cheerleading world). They wear long-sleeved white turtlenecks, rather than the skimpy tops donned by most cheerleading teams. But yesterday I discovered that a USC Song Girl named Megan Ramer doesn't wear underwear. When something goes unused or becomes obsolete, it's said to become a paperweight. Is your cellphone slow and out of date? It's become a paperweight. Is your laptop too slow to use? It's become a paperweight. Do you never use your Apple Vision Pro? It's become a paperweight. Weirdly, paper itself has become a paperweight. People do their work on laptops, tablets, and phones. Most homes don't have printers. Not only do we not need paperweights, we barely need paper!
