When in doubt, blame the editor

I don't doubt for a second that the Secret Service knows what it's doing when it comes to protecting VIPs.

I've seen them do a security sweep (of my living room, in fact) — it's impressive.

Presumably, they performed such an exercise yesterday at the Washington Post before Barack Obama's visit to the newsroom.

Still, Howard Kurtz says that at one point during the meeting with newspaper staff and the president-elect, a Secret Service agent "ordered assistant national editor Carlos Lozada to take his hands out of his pockets."

Sure, blame the editor.

We used to live just a few blocks from the parade route... but we made the mistake of moving from that centrally located spot.

I've always thought USC cheerleaders were pretty classy (to the extent that such a classification is possible in the cheerleading world). They wear long-sleeved white turtlenecks, rather than the skimpy tops donned by most cheerleading teams. But yesterday I discovered that a USC Song Girl named Megan Ramer doesn't wear underwear. Paperweights have become paperweights

When something goes unused or becomes obsolete, it's said to become a paperweight. Is your cellphone slow and out of date? It's become a paperweight. Is your laptop too slow to use? It's become a paperweight. Do you never use your Apple Vision Pro? It's become a paperweight. Weirdly, paper itself has become a paperweight. People do their work on laptops, tablets, and phones. Most homes don't have printers. Not only do we not need paperweights, we barely need paper!
