Make it work
Text messaging and mobile videos are a big part of the plot on Gossip Girl — in fact, the entire show is about the characters prominently chronicled in text message blasts sent out to pretty much everyone on Manhattan's Upper East Side. And you'll recall that Yale University alerted Serena van der Woodsen via text message of her acceptance into the school.
Should we be surprised that the actors themselves, though often older than the characters they play, hold mobile devices in the same esteem?
Fashion consultant Tim Gunn, on the set to make a cameo on the episode airing last week, found 17-year-old actress Taylor Momsen to be "sad" and "pathetic" for being focused so intently on her mobile phone rather than memorizing her lines on the production set. "She was on her phone during every break," Gunn complained to E! News.
It seems to me that actors who get worked up about other people spending too much time on mobile devices probably shouldn't appear on a TV show based entirely on a gossip text-messaging service.
